    INTERESTS

    assorted crafty things

I play several musical instruments: Flute, Piano, several denominations of the Flute (such as Fife, Pan pipes, and recorder.)

I LOVE to sing. I can sing almost anything. I have the voice for "classical" music (such as opera, musicals, and Hymns), But I also don't so half bad at country, folk music, and some pop music. My favorites to sing include: Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Ani Difranco, Paula Cole, Alanis Morisette, The Dixie Chicks, Evanescence and others with similar vocal range, and style.

I design web pages in my spare time. I do NOT use Web Design Programs, such as Macromedia MX. I write my HTML from scratch, and design most of my web graphics from peices of images that I like. My only fault, is that once I have finished a web page, I am most likely to tear it apart as I have learned new coding, and effects that coudl enhance the page, and as a result, my pages are perpetually under construction. Also, I am currently in the process of learning CSS, so that I may better edit my Myspace Page, my Wiki on Mindsay, and other assorted areas I have discovered value CSS over HTML.

I am most often to be found reading a book, or four.... I read almost constantly. Mostly Historical Romance Novels. However, I enjoy Science- Fiction also, and Mysteries are good for the occasional read. I LOVE classic novels ( such as Jane Eyre, Frankenstein, Dracula, Wuthering Heights, etc.) I also enjoy Medieval Literature (or 16th century literature. Arthurian Legends are very fun to read, and Le Morte D'Arthur is a BIG favorite of mine.

I love music of almost all kinds. I have a passion for Musicals of all types, some of my favorites include: The Phantom of the Opera, RENT, Les Mierables, Show Boat, and The Harvey Girls.

I am an avid student of Pagan religions, and the Occult. I mostly concentrate on Norse and Germanic based religious beliefs and mythology, but I have many friends who are Celtic Spiritualists, and also Discordians.

I myself am a Practicing Pagan.

I absolutely LOVE 2D RPG games.
My favorites include; Diablo, Diablo II, Champions of Norrath, Baulder's Gate, and my current OBSESSION an online MMORPG called Conquer Online.

I have widespread and varied interests, anything I may not have listed, ask, if you want to know

Music: See Interests for a longer involved response. However, I enjoy pretty much anything, excepting Country (ie: "She thinks my TRACTOR's sexy!" I have nothing wrong with the MAN on the tractor being sexy...but c'mon people!), Rap Music, and Hip Hop.... cant stand 99% of those...

    my newest favorite song....?

    "Good Enough"
    as sung by Evanescence

Movies: I usually go with Romantic Comedies, but I enjoy anything that ENTERTAINS. I like the OCCASIONAL Horror, but I prefer the ones that mess with your mind, and twist how you see things (ie: Blair Witch Project, and The Ring), over just outright Gore and yuckiness (ie: House of Wax).

I LOVE musicals. and am actually almost ecstatic that they have brought back the big screen musical movement with Phantom, and RENT, and Chicago! :)

At this time I am merely awaiting the production of Les Miserables becoming a Major Motion Picture!

I also enjoy Classics brought to life in movie form also. My current favorite (in case my layout has not given it away....LOL), is "Pride and Prejudice" (2005). This most recent adaption of the Classic Novel by Jane Austen is actually the 3rd adaption. The first was, I believe a black and white, followed by the British mini series. I recommend this last version, however (as with all movies) only after you have read the original text. The characters are far more developed in the novel. And there are many characters and events that have been changed, or left out completely. Not changing the basic elements of the story, but some of those scenes make some of the later scenes, which ARE in the movie seem a little less extreme.

    Moving on.
I LOVE Fantasy movies. Originally in my description here, I failed to include this genre. Which is rather odd. I suppose I was in a hurry at the time. Some Fantasy films I enjoy include: The Matrix, Underworld, The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc.
TV: I don't really watch much TV anymore, but I can tell you that I HATE Reality TV...

The only Even remotely reality TV show I have seen and enjoyed was Dancing With the Stars.
If I wanted MORE reality, I wouldn't be parked in front of my television, looking for some amusement, I would be out in the real world, LIVING it, or reading a newspaper, or watching CNN......

Some of my Favorite Shows: Profiler, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Forever Knight, Forensic Files, CSI, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Bewitched, The Munsters, The Addams Family, Car 54, Green Acres, I Dream of Jeanie, Gilligan's Island, Cheers, Dallas, Charmed, Myth Busters, Ugly Betty.....
Books: Historical Romances, and Sci Fi Romance:

Amanda Quick, Jayne Ann Krentz, Johanna Lindsay, Catherine Coulter, Christine Feehan, Katie MacAllister, and many others...to name a few.

Classics: Frankenstein, Jane Eyre, Le Morte D'Arthur, Beowulf, The Anne of Green Gables Series, Wuthering Heights, Jane Austen Novels, etc.

I read constantly, and so far, I have met few books that I didn't like! Maybe eventually I can add my own name to that list. If i ever find the time to finish MY book....hmm..now there's a thought!
Likes: Likes? I think we have covered this extensively in the prior entries....see interests in "About Me"
Dislikes: Liars, Cheats, Snakes, Spiders, Dark Entities, and anything with a Negative Aura....
Hobbies: ahem....ok ok..I'll type it again...

Crochet, Countes Cross Stitch, Web Design, Image Alteration, Photography, Reading, Puzzles, The Occult, RPG Games...
    Vices: Caffeine Addict extrodinaire!

I enjoy aggravating my mother until she grinds her fake teeth...lol

A card carrying member of Karaoke Addicts Anonymous....lol...

I love going out to Hilltop (or any other bar where there is karaoke and good friends, and having a good time....

    I want to be a MILF...lol
Virtues: I do my best to make my daughters happy and my husband happy.

I work 40 hour a week to pay off my bills instead of declaring bankruptcy, soon to be paid off....YAY!

I am always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needs it.

    Holiday Spirit

Saturday, November 25, 2006, 10:41 PM EST [Holidays]

It is that time of year again. The time of year where retail outlets, grocery stores, malls, and even small boutiques conveniently skip Thanksgiving as a Holiday and move straight on to Christmas. They gloss over this by claiming that it is PART of the "Holiday Season".  The fact that when people think of Thanksgiving and think Fall colors and Pilgrims, not snowflakes and read and Green appears to be irrelevant. Some stores even begin pumping out Christmas music by November 1st.
People become reminded that "OH MY GODS! I haven't begun my Christmas Shopping YET!!!!" They begin the march to the malls and Wal-Marts of the world, pushing and shoving their way to that "perfect gift" that someone ABSOLUTLY must buy. Because it is the "best" or "least expensive price in town".  People fight over Barbie Dolls that their children "have to have" for Christmas. They line up at midnight the night before to be there when the doors open to purchase the "hottest new Christmas Toy" And somewhere in all of thus hustle and shoving and hurry and worrying....the real reason behind it all is lost.
Now, I know that many of you who are Christians are nodding and saying "the birth of Christ" and yes, that is part of it. But depending on your religion, there are many other reasons for the celebration of the season. For Pagans, it is a celebration of the Sun. December 21st is the SHORTEST day of the year, however, every day after gains more sunlight once again.  So the Pagans would celebrate this day the Winter Solstice with feasts and celebration that the darker days were over and light would be flooding back into their lives.
Being raised Christian, I understand that in general, the Christian celebration is a similar philosophy.  THe birth of the "SON" brought with it the end of "darker times" (or negative times). He brought a flood of "light" to the world, that He would be their salvation. Similar idea.
However, somewhere in all the commercialism, the Holiday has been lost. People often talk of the "Holiday Spirit".  What is the Holiday spirit? I'm sure we all know. But how many of us remember when we are faced with the 4 mile barely moving traffic on "Black Friday"? So today, I am going to just send out a little reminder.
Do not think that I am infallible.  I too have occasions where I forget the Holiday Spirit. With so much commercialism shoved down our throats, how can we not get cought up in the mess occasionally?  I personally think that television commercials an stores have ruined the Holidays for eternity.  Whenever possible, time allowing, I like to MAKE my holiday gifts. I haven't done this in about 3 years now. At least. Somewhere along the way, I forgot WHY I was bothering. I lost interest and drive and fell into the capitalistic view of Christmas.
This year, although I still do not have TIME to make my gifts, and despite the actions of others, I have decided that I am going to KEEP the Holiday Spirit. I will stay positive, in the face of adversity. I will not HURRY HURRY HURRY so fast that I forget where I am hurrying to, or even why I was hurrying in the first place.  I have gotten through my main stress of the Holiday. My DAUGHTER'S gifts.
Commercialism at it's worst....she requested "Barbie and The 12 Dancing Princesses". The movie, the dolls (all 13) and anything else I might have found along the way to go with it. The insane cost of this request made me cringe. As it is, for her alone, I have spent OVER $110. My Christmas buidget per person? $20.  And for my sisters, understanding that we each have 2 children of our own that we are busy spoiling (almost), we agreed to spoil each other's children as well, instead of each other. We spend $10 per COUPLE. Then waste money on the girls. It also factors in that both sisters seem to have a thing for men and children with Holiday Birthdays.  With  3 neices, 1 sister, and 2 Brothers-in-law with Birthdays between Nov. 7th and Dec 24th, Holiday Gifts and Birthday gift juggling becomes quite common in my family.
With my daughter out of the way however, through the sheer genious of spreading the stupid dolls through the family tree, I have managed to still get her something educational as well that I KNOW she will enjoy. The dolls will come from Santa, and somehow, I managed to slip gifts from mommy and Daddy through the radar as well.
The next task to tackle, my brother-in-law's birthday, my 2 neices birthdays and somehow slip Christmas gifts through as well. Before the deadline Dec. 24th also my sister's birthday. Seems pretty simple, until we throw in car insurance, car payments, my consolidation, work time, choir time, Physical Therapy Time, appointments for my back, Appointments for the baby, and my husband's work schedule and the limitations of only one car. Begin tearing hair out now....
So here is where the purpose for this entry arrives. WHAT IS the HOLIDAY SPIRIT? Simply put it is the spreading of Positive Energy.  It is the power of the old Holiday Movies and the wonderful things at the ends. It is The town of "Who-ville" coming out to sing hand in hand whithout gifts or decorations. It is the wonderful relization that loving your family, your friends, and neighbors. HAVING family, HAVING friends, and HAVING people that love you, is the greatest gift you can ever have. GIVING to others is a joy in itself. Making them happy. Spreading the positive energy, aka the light, and pushing out the negative energy, aka the dark.
So I challenge each and every one of you to go out today, tomorrow, and every day between now and the holiday, whichever you may celebrate, and smile at the Salvation Army Bell Ringer, maybe even drop in a dollar, or more if you can afford. Smile at your coworkers, the old lady screaming at a poor cashier, at the cashier, at the people out shopping, your dog, your neighbor, your family. Spread your love and positive energy around. All those holiday songs being pumped out of the sounds sytems at the stores, embrace their meaning (if not their melodic intrusion), and spread it to everyone you know. When you get a nasty cashier at the store. Smile and wish them a Happy Holiday. If you ARE the cashier and you get a cranky customer, smile (genuinely) and ask them about their holiday plans, their children, grandchildren, anything. Enhance their positive. They will walk away with a smile, and a lighter step, and spread that joy to others, and others to others, and so on. And maybe this year, Some Scrooge, or Grinch will again realize the "Holiday Spirit". Just as you have it in your heart now. No matter how stressful, REMEMBER that this holiday is about love, friendship, family, and as linus says (and the bible) "peace on earth, goodwill toward men" Be the Angels from the Bible in the story of Christ's birth and "Spread the good news".
And above all have a Happy Holiday Season my friends, my family and my loved ones!

    Thanksgiving....

Thursday, November 23, 2006, 01:15 PM EST [Holidays]

    Today is Thanksgiving

What better day to join a new network and begin my......5th blog site? I think...

However, the person whom invited me here, was one of the people I am most thankful to for touching my life.

There were rough patches, times we didn't talk at all, and times where we were practically inseperable .

But through it all, he was a guiding light in my quest to find myself.

No one can find you FOR you. But they CAN point you in the right direction.

I firmly believe that people enter or exit your life for a reason. The timing is just as important.

If you meet someone, give yourself a chance to REALLY know them. You may learn something about YOURSELF in the process.

So, for my Thanksgiving post, I thank Gar, the Taverners, my Tuatha, my closest friends, my daughter, and my family. For helping me to become the person I am today.

I wouldnt be me without every one of you....some more than others...*winks*
